Education today is more than just acquiring knowledge within the four walls of a classroom. It is about fostering empathy, cultivating leadership skills, and making a positive impact in the world.
The AP with WE Service program, a unique initiative developed by the College Board and WE Charity, combines the rigor of Advanced Placement (AP) courses with meaningful service-learning opportunities.
Elite Open School has been approved by the College Board to offer students the AP with WE Service Recognition. And as official Elite Open School Learning Resource Centers, our Elite Prep branches are authorized to offer AP with WE starting in fall 2023.

Only 2,174 of the more than 15 million high school students in the USA participated in the AP with WE program in 2022

The AP with WE Service Recognition is an uncommon and outstanding way for high school students to STAND OUT on their college applications

AP with WE lets students get more out of their AP courses!

Civic Engagement

By integrating meaningful service projects with their AP coursework, students build an understanding of their roles in solving local and global problems and learn to become engaged citizens.

Critical Thinking

AP with WE students complete a thorough needs assessment of the problems they are attempting to solve, draw conclusions, and evaluate the impact of their service-learning projects.

Inspiration for College Essays

By taking actions that make a difference and building important life skills, students will gain valuable experiences and insights to share on personal statements and essays.

Leadership

Students perform specific roles within their project teams, taking responsibility for unique tasks and presenting results to community members to motivate further action.

Communication & Collaboration

Students work within teams and with community members to research, plan, and execute their projects by expressing opinions, communicating ideas, and defending positions with evidence.

College Board Recognition

By completing their AP coursework, exam, and service project, students will earn the official AP with WE Service Recognition, an impressive achievement to include on college applications.

How does AP with WE work?
Earning the AP with WE Service Recognition at Elite Open School
AP with WE Steps
AP with WE is not a course. It’s a service-learning project completed by a student as a part of an AP subject course. Students take what they learn in an AP course (such as AP Psychology or AP Computer Science A) and apply it to the real world by planning and completing teacher-approved service-learning activities.
Your Elite Open School instructor will help you brainstorm and plan your AP with WE Service project, making sure it is directly related to the subject of your AP course and that it follows all College Board program guidelines. After the project is complete, your instructor will score your project and submit the scores to the College Board.
Part 1:
Investigate & Learn
Undertake a student-led investigation of a topic at local and global levels, and evaluate existing programs that take action on the topic, making clear connections to the AP course topic.
Part 2:
Action Plan
Develop an achievable plan to carry out one global and one local action in the form of direct service, indirect service, or advocacy, including tasks, responsibilities, resources needed, and a timeline.
Part 3:
Take Action
Participate in a meaningful service-learning project that has local and global significance, involving direct service, indirect service, and/or advocacy.
Part 4:
Report & Celebrate
Create a portfolio that showcases the service-learning project and explains the impact of the project and its significance. Celebrate a successful experience!
Here are examples of service projects that students in the AP with WE Service program have completed:
AP Computer Science A
Creating an app to help people who suffer from anxiety and panic attacks
AP Computer Science Principles
Developing software for a local community service organization
AP Psychology
Surveying the community to help nonprofits combat homelessness
