Is this course accredited?
Yes. The AP Chinese Language and Culture course is offered by Elite Open School, a WASC-accredited private school. (See Elite Open School’s A-G course list approved by the University of California.)
Are there any prerequisites for this course?
At a minimum, completion of Chinese 3 or a course equivalent to an intermediate high proficiency level course; completion of Chinese 4 is recommended.
Native and heritage speakers are also eligible to take this course. If you are a native or heritage speaker, a diagnostic test will be administered to assess your readiness.
How long is this class?
The course is two semesters long offered during the school year (fall and spring semesters). You have a total of 33 weeks to complete the course after enrollment.
Can I start the class any time?
No. You must begin the course on the course start date in mid-September.
Can I complete this class in one semester?
The course is asynchronous, and you can work on lessons online at any time. You must complete weekly assignments by the due date, and most students take the full 33 weeks to complete the course.
Is this class offered in the summer?
No. The course is offered only in the school year.
How is this course taught?
The course content is delivered through an online platform through reading assignments, videos, and assignments. The course is asynchronous, and you can work on lessons online at any time. To ensure that you complete the course successfully, you will be required to attend two hours of live, online study sessions with our instructor who will monitor your progress and review the course assignments.
Will I get a transcript for this course?
Yes. Elite Open School will issue an official transcript upon completion of the course. You may request an official transcript to be sent to a college or university of your choice.
Can I transfer the grade and credit I receive from this course to my high school?
Please check with your school counselor to see if your school accepts course credits and grades from another school.
Note that most students do not need to transfer the credit and grade earned from the course to their high school unless they are taking the course to fulfill course prerequisites or graduation requirements at their high school. Instead, you can send a transcript from Elite Open School directly to the colleges you apply to in your senior year, and colleges will consider the AP Chinese course credit and grade as a part of your college application.
Will colleges accept the grade I receive for this course?
Yes. The course is offered by Elite Open School, a WASC-accredited private school. (See Elite Open School’s A-G course list approved by the University of California.)
When applying to college, you can request Elite Open School to send an official transcript of the grade and credit you earned from the course to a college or university you are applying to. The college or university evaluates your coursework as a part of your college application.
Can I get college credit for this course?
No. Completing the course will result in a high school grade and course credit that you can include on your college application. To receive college credit, you must achieve a passing score on the AP exam.
Can I take the AP Chinese Language and Culture exam at the end of this course?
Yes. This course is designed to prepare you for the AP Chinese Language and Culture exam.
Where can I take the AP exam?
Students who live near Elite Prep's San Jose office can register to take the AP exam there. Elite Prep also partners with high schools in Southern California where students can take AP exams.
You may also ask the AP Coordinator at your high school if you can register to take the AP exam at your school. Additionally, you can search the AP Course Ledger to find a school where you might be able to test.
