Teacher Spotlight

Commitment to Teaching

Phil MannPhil Mann
"As a teacher, I am grateful that I can trust the curriculum here at Elite. We constantly revise the material to make sure that it represents the kinds of questions students will encounter on the real test, so students know they are getting some of the most up-to-date material available anywhere. Knowing that Elite is so firmly committed to its original materials makes my job much easier. So do my colleagues, men and women with intelligence, experience, and a strong commitment to our students. In the end, though, it is the students who make Elite such a wonderful place to work and teach. The students are, almost without exception, motivated, and they contribute to an atmosphere that is both conducive to learning and fun."

Tried and True

"I've most enjoying teaching at Elite for these past 6 years (amazing how time flies) because the environment at Elite provides much more than that of a typical SAT prep center. The Elite philosophy works so well because it is not about shortcuts that might work to outsmart the test and college admission officers but instead is founded upon the tried and true tenets that do work: hard work and critical thinking.
But helping our students experience the success that comes with working their way through the curriculum has been just one of the most rewarding aspects of my 6 years of teaching Elite classes. The other consistent and memorable reward is to witness the lasting friendships students forge through our various programs. I try to ensure that they leave my classroom better prepared for the rigors and demands that await them in college. I have found that students come to our classes expecting to memorize boxes of vocabulary words, math formulas and grammar rules (and they do), but they leave our classes surprised to have been challenged both academically and intellectually in ways they never expected. A Better Future

"Working for Elite is a pleasure because the students who come through our doors are respectful, inquisitive and spontaneous. While each class is unique, each covers the same fundamentals: a dedication to excellence, a fostering of intellectual curiosity and a commitment to the belief that hard work in one's studies leads to academic success. While I've taught many students in critical reading and literary analysis, the students themselves have taught me as well. I've discovered that each student learns at his/her own pace and that it's important to find a student’s passion and build a foundation from there.
The best rewards a teacher can receive are delivered daily at Elite, whenever students surpass their expectations on the SAT or find out a college they previously thought was out of reach has just sent them a letter of acceptance. Elite is more than just a tutoring company, it's a refuge for high school students searching for a better future."
